Wonderful large twin headed translucent Calcite in fine condition.
Aesthetic velvety, chatoyant Malachite.
Rootbeer colored Fluorite crystal with dark purple zoning.
Pretty pseudomorph of Dolomite that has replaced Calcite.
The number and quality of Grossular specimens has been poor at earlier Tucson Shows, but at the 2009 Show there were some very good specimens from a recent find that were very well cleaned. I bought a number of them, so if you don't catch this one - I have more available.
Beautiful cluster of Quartz with silvery Pyrite that presents well from all sides.
Stunning specimen of green Stilbite with some salmon colored Stilbite and partially trimmed with snow white Scolecite.
Very gemmy Topaz Crystal (1x 0.75 cm) in Rhyolite.
Aesthetic display of blood red hexagonal Vanadinite crystals on a plate of tabular white Barite.
Cluster of sharply terminated Quartz crystals with pinkish tint from Hematite inclusions.
Super large specimen of barrel shaped lustrous, brassy, hexagonal Pyrrhotite crystal (9 cm) on a plate of radiating sprays of milky Quartz needles.
Very nice specimen of gemmy pitachio green Epidote crystals with clear, sharp Quartz crystals on matrix.
Very delicate sprays of acicular glassy Selenite crystals on matrix.
Solid specimen of gemmy light green Fluorite.
Terrific tri-cluster of sharp Quartz crystals aesthetically covered with snow white Dolomite and with some accenting golden Pyrite at the base.
Very appealing presentation of red Heulandite crystals forming a neat line below lustrous light pink Stilbite.
A fine cluster of lustrous, pearlescent, Barite spearpoints in en echelon bundles mounded on a bit of Fluorite matrix.
Nice specimen with spray and pinwheel crystal formations of glassy Hemimorphite on Limonite.
Excellent specimen of jet black, lustrous, nicely terminated Neptunite crystals on snow white Natrolite.
The mineral is named for Neptune, Roman god of the sea because of its association with aegirine from Àgir, the Scandinavian sea-god
Aesthetic display of light purple Amethyst crystals lining a vug. First of many fine specimens from the collection of Jorge Diaz Asenjo, which I recently acquired.
On this page there are a few specimens from a collection I recently acquired from a fine gentleman and collector - Jorge Diaz Asenjo, who lives in Oviedo, Asturias, Spain. There is more to come in information on Jorge and the Collection in future updates.
'The Denton mine, along with the Annabel Lee and Minerva #1 mines were the most productive fluorspar mines during the last phase of mining in the Southern Illinois fluorspar district. The Denton Mine was also a prolific specimen-producer."
"Topaz Mountain is located on the southern end of the Thomas Range. This range is very popular to rock collecting enthusiasts. Topaz, Utah's state gem; is a semiprecious gemstone that occurs as very hard transparent crystals in a variety of colors. The Topaz crystals at Topaz Mountain are naturally amber colored, but become colorless after exposed to sunlight. The crystals formed within cavities of the Topaz Mountain Rhyolit, a volcanic rock which erupted approximately six to seven million years ago (Tertiary Period) from volcanic vents along faults in the area."
Gemmy, hexagonal Apatite (Fluorapatite) crystals with light yellow-green color measuring up to 1.5x1x0.5 cm with Arsenopyrite on a brownish Muscovite covered matrix. A very nice specimen of hard to obtain Panasqueira Apatites, which is even better when seen in person!!
Fine specimen with eight Apatite crystals - the largest measuring 4x2x1cm on matrix with Arsenopyrite. The crystals range from gemmy to very translucent - are dark green with some yellow tint in color and, are in very good condition. The upper photo shows the gemminess of the crystals. The lower photo better shows the surface features of the large crystal, including beveling around the edges. Small Arsenopyrite crystals dot the surface of the large crystal.
The Rogerley Mine is located in the historic Weardale mining District of Northern England. First discovered by Lindsay Greenbank and Mike Sutcliffe in the early 1970's, it is to date, the only mine in all of Britian to be worked on a commercial scale solely for the recovery of crystallized mineral specimens.
Rich green colored twinned crystals of Fluorite on matrix. It is fluorescent under sunlight turning to a purple color.
Aesthetic specimen of Pyrite pseudomorphed after Chalcopyrite with Sphalerite and Quartz. Note the prominent tristetrahedral crystals of Sphalerite at the top of the specimen. Neat !!
A stunning radial cluster of highly lustrous, colorless to green, cubically-tipped Fluorapophyllite crystals from the famous find of 2001. Rarely available on the market these days. The specimen has great sparkle and the small tail of pearlecent Stilbite blades adds a nice accent. The piece is in very good condition.
