12.3 x 7.5 x 3.7 cm
      $1,200
Bright brick-red, lustrous, translucent, tabular, hexagonal Vanadinite prisms, to 1.1 cm, are richly and dramatically festooned on the sculptural large matrix plate. The crystal richness, yet with some isolation and separation is remarkable. An outstanding pristine specimen.
Dramatic, variably sized, rust-red, translucent stalactiform Calcite fingers fill a striking 270-degree vug from this uncommon Montana locale. The ridge of larger fingers in the center is remarkable, with the largest being about 5.0 cm tall. The interior is pristine and the bit of noted periphery wear is certainly only a modest detraction to this very fine and sculptural large specimen from the locale. They came out in the 1970s. Carter County is in extreme southeastern Montana in the Paleozoic Williston Basin, an area not known for fine mineral specimens.
Striated, lustrous, jet-black twinned Sphalerite crystals, to 3.0 cm, fill a sculptural vug in large matrix and are surrounded by contrasting spherical clusters of oxide-tinted flattened Calcite rhombs. This is a classic, noteworthy, very rich and showy large Sphalerite combination from the historic poly-metallic mines at Cavnic. It has several fine display views. Dramatic and large, it is not usually seen in large specimens at least here in the West. Ex Zerfass collection

Calcite Crystals in Fossil Clams (Mercenaria permagna) on Matrix
Rucks Pit, Near Fort Drum, Okeechobee County, Florida, USA
20.5 x 13 x 8 cm
          $1,000
Large Mercenaria permagna clams containing gemmy honey-amber Calcite crystals collected from the well-known find at Rucks’ Pit near Fort Drum were first discovered by Dr. Thomas Scott of the Florida Geological Survey. The clams were found in a living position, within a stratigraphic zone 0.3 – 0.6m thick throughout the pit. As these Mercenaria were found in hinge-up living position, it was believed that they died in place due to a catastrophic event, such as sudden burial or freshwater poisoning resulting from a hurricane, tsunami or other causes. The age of these Mercenaria fossils is late Pliocene to early Pleistocene (1 – 1.5 million years old). These specimens are unique. Years ago, they were dug out in more quantity and sold at moderate prices.
But now, they are much less available and prices have as much as tripled, depending on a specimen's quality.
